Beyond Bisti.
Here you see the last glimmers of evening twilight shine on this magnificent structure they call Shiprock. To think I almost didn't make it... The "rocks" you see in the foreground can dwarf a person, making hiking on the 45 degree incline difficult at best. What you also don't notice is the 20F temperatures that I endured on a western facing wall in the unprotected desert plains. Cold to the bones is a good way to describe my state at this very moment... But what a view!
Once the Sun had set I mustered enough strength in my already frozen hands to pack my camera and prepare once again to traverse the bolder field in the dusk as there are only two ways over the rocky spine, both of which are 1 1/2 miles back. Now I understand why most photographs are taken from the other side of the boulder wall... But few images inspire me as much as from this spot!
