A little sand, a little water and a lot of time.
"
Mystical Eden"
After 10 miles and 400+ vertical feet (both down and then back UP again after mile eight) I have finally accomplished one of my all-time-wanted locations. This location has no real trails and can be very dangerous to navigate as was reinforced by a missing hiker search being conducted with Blackhawk helicopters while hiking this particular day. The helicopters would hover above me and I would wave with only one hand (vs two indicating distress) as a sign I was OK.
Large format photographs of this place overloads the senses. I had to experience this for myself. After much planning and research I anticipated the best time of year to hike into this nether-worldly place. Cold water soaks your feet if not prepared. Timing is important for viewing. Not just seasonal timing, but watchful timing. I would observe many who would take the same trek that day and snap some images… then leave as quickly as they came. Beautiful as it was during the morning, only by staying to watch the afternoon show did this resultant glow from within the opening become radiant.
