October 2009.
"
Yearning for Yesterday"
Babcock State Park has been on my “to do” list for many years now, however obligations out west kept me from enjoying the eastern colors until now. After a disappointing fall in Colorado and an unusually low balloon turnout forecast for the 2009 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, I elected to head east to capture this amazing site myself.
I’ve learned the hard way to never assume fall colors make their presence known at exactly the same time each year and this year was no different... By the time I arrived at Glade Creek Grist Mill (several days before forecast peak) several trees in the area had already dropped their leaves due to a storm. More bad weather was in the forecast and I ended up taking my shot five days earlier than expected. Actually, after reviewing other photographer’s work, I kind of like the multi-colored trees behind the mill since a stand of all yellow trees look too monotone for my taste. Early bird gets his bird I suppose.
